The marsh was such a pretty sight this year, filled with Pickerelweed and its large spikes of violet-blue flower clusters. Also, Verbena hastata is in flower too. Unfortunately, the larger pond was filled with duckweed. It kinda ruins my photo of the heron above. I like the water blue as I like the sky blue.

Cormorants fly over the marsh and occasionally you might see one by the Niagara River’s edge ground level, but more likely roosting in trees riverside.

I didn’t notice the green until you mentioned it. you really focus on the heron more and I always think those night herons look like they’re up to something!
Love the egret in front of the dead tree with the reflection….. that one sure wouldn’t be as nice with duckweed 😉
They look shifty, but so do most herons. You have to see my next post on a heron. It has to be one of the most unattractive herons around. The egret shot was Friday and the marsh is getting so pretty with all the purple plants. Now they have it restricted and posted again. All summer I could use the trail to get to that island.
